In past, Management of waste generated during diagnosis, treatment or immunization of human bodies or
animals or research activities has never been an integral part of the health care program. These wastes, if not managed properly pose a serious threat to human health.
Bio Medical Waste (Management & Handling) Rules, 1998 notified under Environment (Protection) Act, makes it compulsory for medical professionals
and organizations that the waste generated by their activities is properly segregated, collected, treated and disposed as per provisions of the Rules.
Our work
Surat Municipal Corporation, recognizing the need of hour and took up the task of proper disposal of the medical waste generated from medical institution. A BOOT (Built Own Operate Transfer) contract was awarded to M/s Envision Enviro Engineers Pvt. Ltd. to set up a centralized Bio Medical Waste Treatment Facility in a plot measuring approximately 2400 sq mt. with state of art technology at Bhatar Solid Waste Disposal Site.
Transportation of biomedical waste from 27 designated health centres upto facility is carried out by Envision Enviro Engineers Pvt. Ltd. Treatment option adopted are incineration of biomedical waste of categories 1, 2, 3 & 5 and sterilization by means of autoclaving and shredding for biomedical waste of categories 3, 4, 6 & 7. Incineration ash and shredding waste sent to landfill site of Surat Municipal Corporation for ultimate disposal.
In addition to these the Biomedical Waste treatment plant of Udaipur and Ranchi is also being run by M/s Envision Enviro Engineers Pvt. Ltd.
